Jamil Roberts (00:00)
Hello everyone and welcome to the Backstik Podcast. I'm Jamil Roberts and I'm joined here as usual by Mr. Dom Ocas. Dom, how are you mate?

Dom Okus (00:10)
good, I'm good. I'm good. It's the new year.

yeah, man, just excited to get into this conversation, bro.

Jamil Roberts (00:16)
Yeah, me too. And it's another one of my boys from Kansas City. It's another one of my boys that he's got a good story behind him and I'm looking forward to getting into this one. So Jaylin Lindsey, introducing you to the pod man. Welcome. How are you, pal?

Jaylin Lindsey (00:33)
Okay, man, you. Thanks for having me on,

Jamil Roberts (00:35)
Yeah, all good. I'm good over here. I'm good over here man. It's um as we were talking kind of before the show here I'm I'm back in England and Dom's recently just returned from England and let me tell you it is cold like it is Dropped over here like crazy. What's it like in Charlotte at the minute? You still there? Yeah

Dom Okus (00:50)
Hahaha

Jaylin Lindsey (00:52)
I bet, I bet, bro.

It's cold, bro. We try to out

for pickups, Dude, my toes be gone, bro. can't even... First 45 minutes, bro, my toenails are like, bro, they're gone, Bro, I'm trying to shoot the ball. I can't even feel my feet, bro. But it's sunny now, though. It's chill. It's chill.

Jamil Roberts (01:01)
Frozen pitch isn't that?

Dom Okus (01:02)
hahahaha

Jamil Roberts (01:08)
Screaming at you

Dom Okus (01:11)
Ha ha.

Jamil Roberts (01:14)
Nah, that's that that's that's just what

Dom Okus (01:14)
Hehehehehe

Jamil Roberts (01:18)
happens when you get that high up the I guess I guess one place to start is obviously we met We met when we was playing at Kansas City at the same time But I guess what's kind of kept us in contact really as opposed to obviously just being mates

Jaylin Lindsey (01:20)
That's true. I mean, you're not wrong, bro. Different universe, bro. I tell you what.

Jamil Roberts (01:42)
Is I wanted to kind of touch on you being a Liverpool fan myself being a United fan and obviously at the time of this recording the two clubs play against each other tomorrow, so First and foremost off the bat. What's your predictions? What's your scoreline predictions for the game at Anfield?

Jaylin Lindsey (01:59)
Dude, I'm not

gonna lie, that's gonna be a battering, bro. It ain't gonna be quick, bro. I could see it, I could see it 3-0 by half and then it could be, it'd be similar to West Ham though, so Dom knows, but I mean.

Jamil Roberts (02:02)
No!

Dom Okus (02:11)
is that how we're starting off? Is that how we're starting off the video? Flames. Just like that? Alright then.

Jaylin Lindsey (02:14)
I mean, I mean, you got set the standard, know what I mean?

Jamil Roberts (02:19)
Just firing it off at early

doors.

Dom Okus (02:23)
Now to be fair, Liverpool have been on absolute fire. Like I went to, over Christmas I went to the Spurs game, Spurs Liverpool, the 6-3 game. my God. Dominik Szaboszlai was on fire. That guy is the coldest. he's so sick.

Jaylin Lindsey (02:26)
Yeah, bro.

Yeah, aw dude.

Lion Row.

If he's... Bro, it's weird because

Jamil Roberts (02:38)
He's a player. He is a player.

Jaylin Lindsey (02:41)
in the beginning, I was kind of like, all right, this guy is kind of like a running merchant, whatever, he just runs around, whatever. But you can see he'll slowly gradually get the goals and assists. Once he does that, I think he'll be pretty good.

Jamil Roberts (02:55)
His tech is Unbelievable like when he shoot you know you can just tell when some people strike a ball is different and To be fair you've got a couple of them at Liverpool like Trent's the same way like Van Dyke's the same way like when they ping it My days is unbelievable, but you know I didn't know he had in his locker It was only around like the euros time when I see him banging free kicks for Hungary in that

Dom Okus (02:56)
Yeah man.

Jaylin Lindsey (02:57)
Tech

is nuts. Nuts, bro.

Dom Okus (03:00)
both foot.

Jaylin Lindsey (03:04)
Yeah, bro.

Yeah, just a technique, bro. Yeah. Yeah.

Dom Okus (03:21)
Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (03:21)
Dude,

no, unbelievable, bro.

Jamil Roberts (03:23)
Like

the dip he gets on a free kick is is nuts

Dom Okus (03:23)
Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (03:27)
See, that's what's annoying. guess with Hungary he'll hit those free kicks, he'll come back to Liverpool straight in the wall. And I'm just like, bro, like, bro, bang him in, bro, you can do it.

Dom Okus (03:28)
You suck.

Jamil Roberts (03:33)
laughter

Dom Okus (03:41)
So Jam, what are you thinking then? What are you thinking predictions were? Because Man United are in a tough spot at the minute, they? So, what you thinking?

Jamil Roberts (03:42)
Ugh.

Yeah, I mean,

I'll be honest mate, I hate to agree with Jay. Like, it could be really, really bad. And I was talking to my brother about it this morning and I said, I'm trying to just think, you you know, don't even have a game this week. Like, it's easier for me to think that way because I think it's gonna be bad. And also, I hate nearly every player on our team at the moment. So like, you know, it's...

I love the club and I support like I'm so behind the manager and I'm so against this group of asshole players that I just like I think one they deserve it to get bad and humbled But two I just I don't want their stock to drop even more because they're all on so much money and we'll be able to sell any of them

Jaylin Lindsey (04:34)
Bro, Dom, you should have heard someone in that chat was talking shit about Man U and Jamil and then Jamil was like, bro, I'm already hurt and I don't care. Bro, I started dying, bro. said, He said, I don't care.

Dom Okus (04:35)
Yeah, man.

haha

Jamil Roberts (04:47)
Bro, think I said I said I'm already dead. I'm already

Dom Okus (04:48)
Nah man, you know.

Jamil Roberts (04:52)
dead. You can't hurt me anymore

Dom Okus (04:53)
E?

me.

Jaylin Lindsey (04:57)
Bro, I started dying laughing, bro, because I get

that feeling here with the Panthers, like the NFL team here, bro. I'm just like, bro, I'm already hurting, bro. Who cares, bro? Like, don't matter, bro.

Dom Okus (05:04)
Yeah, yeah.

Jamil Roberts (05:07)
Like at this point you're literally just beating a dead horse

Dom Okus (05:07)
Yeah, it's bad.

man, it's bad when your team's playing so bad they've just defeated all morale. Like you have no hope left. You're just like, whatever.

Jaylin Lindsey (05:12)
See you later.

Jamil Roberts (05:13)
I

Yeah, you know

and like it comes you know what like I mean I won't I will call him out is Chris Hegardt like he was calling me out But like about and this guy's an arsenal fan by the way is an arsenal fan who like his team have just turned into the modern-day Stoke City Right and he's trying and he's trying to give me Pelters About like United and this and that and I'm saying it's not even worth your time that we're 14th Why are you even talking about us like talk about Newcastle or something like that like someone that's like threatening you?

Jaylin Lindsey (05:31)
Yes, yeah, yeah.

Jamil Roberts (05:44)
Like, threatening your second place, like, you know what mean? just like, just like, talk about them. We're fine, we're worrying about like, Ipswich and that, like...

Dom Okus (05:44)
Yeah, no.

I'm

I'm dead. But just quickly, you mentioned the group chat that you lot have. So what's the group chat for? Do you want to kind of explain to the listeners what the group chat's for?

Jamil Roberts (06:06)
Yes, so it's

Jaylin Lindsey (06:06)
It's a minute.

Jamil Roberts (06:07)
FPL, FPL. started, did it, I think it started in 2021? Was it 21?

Jaylin Lindsey (06:14)
I

mean, yeah, we started like a couple of years ago and then we had like a couple of guys like obviously like back out and a couple of guys we added in. Yeah. Yeah. And then we kind of just like, we'll just talk in there. Like usually sometimes it'd be a bit of FPL, but then like probably 90 % of the time, it's just about like, we're just like talking shit to each other about the teams and like the games and stuff, like stuff like that. So.

Jamil Roberts (06:19)
It was mainly just sporting at the time.

Yeah

Dom Okus (06:33)
Right.

Jamil Roberts (06:36)
Yeah, and it's a mixture. There's a few of the Charlotte FC boys in there some sporting KC boys in there And then just a few of the few of the lads like mates that have just kind of jumped in there like you know and I don't know how many are in the league now, but But we What's it we moved across to like a different platform this year and I'm stinking. I'm absolutely awful I'm like second from bottom in it, but

Jaylin Lindsey (06:47)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Okay, bro. Hey,

hey, who on his team? has a whole menu team though. That's why.

Jamil Roberts (07:05)
That's not true. I did at the beginning. Now I'm climbing back up the league.

Dom Okus (07:09)
Optimistic.

Jaylin Lindsey (07:13)
Bro, cause

Dom Okus (07:14)
Mwahahah

Jaylin Lindsey (07:14)
I remember

I was playing them bro and I see like the licks, Masuari, Diallo, Rashford, Bruno, I'm like damn bro, like who did you draft?

Jamil Roberts (07:22)
You

Dom Okus (07:23)
Eheh

Why have you done that Jerm? You're playing with your heart mate. You can't play with your heart in these things.

Jamil Roberts (07:27)
you

Yeah, I know,

but the thing is I'm looking at the board and like... I mean, listen, I can't speak for the person I was then. Listen, if it was me now, I wouldn't have any of them, so...

Dom Okus (07:41)
Who knows?

Jaylin Lindsey (07:42)
Honestly,

FPL is all luck, dude. if you like, if you have like Holland Salah, like, I guess now like Palmer, like you're like, you're probably gonna win. Like other than that, like you ain't gonna win, bro.

Jamil Roberts (07:47)
Ahem.

Yeah, yeah. Nah, it's true,

it's true. I had a Worldie today, actually. I made two transfers. brought in Anthony Gordon and Buemo to my actual team. And Buemo got two and Gordon got one. So I've had a Worldie today. man, he's the next one, isn't he? He's the next one to go to like from...

Jaylin Lindsey (08:03)
Yeah, yeah, Buemos sick, bro.

Dom Okus (08:04)
You know. Polar.

Jaylin Lindsey (08:08)
Dude, it was so weird.

Like I think like it was like two years ago and like I think Breford just got to the league. I was like, bro, how old is this guy, bro? Like this dude looked like 33. Bro, I go check. He's like 22 at the time. Like dude, bald already, bro? Damn. Bro.

Jamil Roberts (08:15)
I

Dom Okus (08:16)
You

Yeah... Yeah!

Jamil Roberts (08:21)
Nah, he's doing it Ashley Young he's gonna get to his

30s, and then he's gonna have a nice hairline

Jaylin Lindsey (08:28)
Bro.

Dom Okus (08:28)
Yeah, mad. But do we know, is

he bald by choice? Because like Ashley Young is bald by choice, bald by choice. Yeah, yeah, no he's not. Yeah, mad. Couldn't imagine having no hair.

Jaylin Lindsey (08:32)
I don't know actually.

Jamil Roberts (08:33)
I haven't... Yeah, yeah. Well, he was. Now he's doing the shape up, ain't he?

Jaylin Lindsey (08:41)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (08:42)
Nah, no idea,

no idea. I mean, if he is, he's got the beard, do know what mean? There's not many people that have got the beard like that to pull it off. But I will just let everyone know that the first year that we did the FPL league, I did win it. So I do have a title to my name. I don't know if Jay's got a title to his name.

Dom Okus (08:47)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, fair. Very fair.

Jaylin Lindsey (08:50)
Exactly,

I don't recall him winning so I have no idea what he's talking about here. I'm not gonna lie.

Jamil Roberts (09:07)
I'll go through the archives

mate. Don't worry. Don't worry

Jaylin Lindsey (09:11)
I'm gonna check that after this bro. I'm gonna get some proof here.

Jamil Roberts (09:14)
Check the statements receipts get receipts.

Dom Okus (09:15)
I'm dead.

I'm dead. I'm dead.

Jamil Roberts (09:19)
Well, I think that's that's a good that's a good intro to the pod there and I think Dom's done well there to escape a lot of West Ham banner as well, so But let's get into you anyway Jay so Obviously, like I said before we we met when we were both down in Kansas City together

Dom Okus (09:28)
Yeah, swiftly moving on.

Jaylin Lindsey (09:30)
What? What?

Jamil Roberts (09:43)
And, you know, I don't want to kind of dwell on that time period so much. Obviously, you you came through. But kind of what I just want to, I want to go right back to the beginning when you first signed for Kansas City as a homegrown player. But am I right in thinking, I've got it written down here, am I right in thinking that you were the first player born in the 2000s or later to debut a professional match in the US?

Jaylin Lindsey (10:10)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was like once I made my debut, I remember seeing that kind of like all over social media and stuff, I'm pretty sure.

Jamil Roberts (10:17)
That's nuts. So is that was that just MLS or was that just professional football in general?

Jaylin Lindsey (10:20)
No, no, so that was,

so that was us. So that's when it was the Rangers at the time before like the sporting. Yeah. So far Rangers. Yeah. So that's when they first got to like, they first built the team and then, that had to be like, what 20, like 15 or 16 or something like that. And then, yeah, at the time I was with all, I was on Academy contracts and then, yeah, I got thrown in for like 10 minutes.

Jamil Roberts (10:27)
Swoap.

Jaylin Lindsey (10:46)
So that's where like the whole record came in for the 2000 thing came in.

Jamil Roberts (10:51)
and then also Just kind of touching on you when you were a kid and you're breaking through So obviously you had you played in U17 World Cup U17 CONCACAF. So what was like your age group? At the time like he was some of the lads on your team and what was that experience like for you before? Obviously you you made the jump to the first team with with SKC

Jaylin Lindsey (11:12)
Yeah, I mean, honestly, I think like our team in terms of like talent and like the depth, like we had like a pretty good, pretty, you know, pretty good squad. I mean, we had guys like, you know, Josh Sharjian, Timothy Weah, James Sands now that just got loaned out to the team in Bundesliga At the time, Chris Gosling, Andrew Carlton at the time as well, like what a baller he was. And then

Jamil Roberts (11:29)
you

players.

Jaylin Lindsey (11:42)
I mean, yeah, we had guys on the bench like, Serginio, we had Serginio at that time was there too. Taylor Booth, Akil Watts is at St. Louis now. mean, like that team at the time, like we had the depth for like, I had a pretty good feeling that we were going to make it pretty far. But then obviously we got to England and I mean, they're just England, bro. Like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (12:07)
soz.

Dom Okus (12:07)
Who did you play against?

Jaylin Lindsey (12:09)
So I actually didn't play in the game. I got hurt like I got a concussion pretty bad like in our third group stage game, like pretty bad. So I was out the rest of the tournament then. So, but I mean, I was watching the game and dude like that team, bro, I mean, yeah, like Calum Hudson-Odoi just running stuff like you have Phil (Foden), rhian brewster at the time. I think Mark Geuhi was playing as well. I mean, they had some ballers, bro. So.

Jamil Roberts (12:38)
Yeah,

he played that team. He played that team. Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (12:39)
Like they had a team. Yeah. That team. Yeah. Gibbs-White

too. they had a team.

Dom Okus (12:47)
Rian went to my school. He went to my secondary school and my primary school so I know him well. At the time he was at Chelsea and then he ended up going, I think at 14 or 15 ended up going to Liverpool and yeah, obviously he's doing well. He's at Sheffield United now and yeah that team that he played in with Foden and Mark Gahey and Gibbs White and all that, joke, joke.

Jaylin Lindsey (12:48)
Bye today.

Jamil Roberts (13:05)
Silly.

Jaylin Lindsey (13:06)
And bro, we

like we were praying because in the beginning they had Sancho and that's when the time he was at Dortmund. He was like cooking bro, like so and then I think Dortmund called him back after the group stage. So we were like, alright we might have a chance. But then like we didn't know how to. Yeah, bro. And so like we didn't know, like at the time we didn't know how to do it. We just knew Sanchez. So we're just like, dude, like we're going to get cooked, like, you know, whatever. And so obviously, so and so obviously. Yes.

Jamil Roberts (13:10)
you

Dom Okus (13:14)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (13:19)
And then Hudson O'Doey is on the left.

Dom Okus (13:28)
Hahaha!

Jamil Roberts (13:30)
Hey, let's be honest, Jay's a right back here and he's

thinking, he's thinking I've got a way with one, Sancho's not here and then Hudson-Odoi rolls up.

Dom Okus (13:40)
f**king hell.

Jaylin Lindsey (13:41)
And so that's

what I'm saying. So like in the beginning, I'm like, so everyone's looking at me, bro, like, you might get coked, bro, like, you know, watch out. And I'm just like, all right, bro, y'all got to say that like that, bro. Like, especially if Sanchez would come to the final, would be a match up with them. Um, then obviously like, you know, obviously then I got hurt and then we ended up playing, we beat Paraguay in the round of 16 and then lost the quarters to England. And then, you know, I remember like Hudson O'Doy watching him. like, the, who's this guy, bro? And then like, he was cooking, bro. And then, you know, obviously then he was playing for Chelsea and then.

Dom Okus (13:50)
Thanks

Jaylin Lindsey (14:09)
You know, got the link to buy in or whatever at the time and like now he's kind of cooking at a naughty him now, but like he's a good player.

Jamil Roberts (14:15)
Yeah,

he'll go back to a big six club very soon I remember when we had Kazaya on here and Kazaya same as you like played against all these players that you're talking about when you were similar ages back when you know you were teenagers and It's funny that the first person you mentioned was Hudson O'Doy. The first person that Kaz mentioned was Hudson O'Doy like he must like honestly, he must have been Silly good back in the day like every single person who played against him

Jaylin Lindsey (14:17)
For sure. For sure.

Yeah.

Dude, so good man.

Dom Okus (14:38)
I promise you, we will see you next

Jaylin Lindsey (14:41)
Bro, so good, man.

Jamil Roberts (14:44)
He's the first person that they mentioned. Like, he was a joke.

Jaylin Lindsey (14:47)
Yeah, because like, like, you know, like, I mean, obviously you guys both play it like, you know, sometimes like you're sitting there like, all right, they got a sub, like, you know, the backup or whatever, like, all right, it's cool. Whatever. I was like, this guy, you know, bro. He came. Well, I said, this guy in a backup, bro. I was like, now this guys cooking bro. This guy's him, bro. was like, damn.

Dom Okus (14:58)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (15:07)
Yeah, who is Sancho?

Jaylin Lindsey (15:11)
It's like, got a santo and this guy too? Like bro.

Jamil Roberts (15:14)
mate, I can't even imagine. mean, like, I remember, like, when I was a kid, the best thing I ever saw was Marcus Edwards was either a year below or two years below me. And I was at Portsmouth at the time, and I can't remember what age group it was, but I didn't ever get, like, embarrassed by any winger, like, growing up whatsoever. And then basically, when I, like, it was a thing like...

Dom Okus (15:14)
We have met Paula.

Jamil Roberts (15:42)
Basically my dad used to get really at like he'd get annoyed when I didn't play well But like obviously I was a good thing cuz they like drilled in you know you want to play well every game sort of thing This game against Tottenham where I played left-back and Marcus Edwards played right wing Was the first game ever where I got that badly embarrassed right like he nutmegged me he made me fall over I was like trying to just like see the ball

Jaylin Lindsey (15:57)
but it's nasty, bro.

Jamil Roberts (16:07)
It was the first time and the only time ever that I got back in the car with my old man and he just went like, yeah, fair enough. Like...

Jaylin Lindsey (16:17)
It's just like,

on to the next.

Dom Okus (16:20)
Yeah, fair enough. Fair play. Yes. So good. No worries. I still love you.

Jaylin Lindsey (16:25)
Yeah, heard he was nasty too.

Jamil Roberts (16:25)
You

Jaylin Lindsey (16:28)
Is he still at Lisbon still?

Jamil Roberts (16:32)
Yeah, still at Lisbon. It wouldn't surprise me if he comes back to England soon because every time he plays against in the Champions League, like he rips it up.

Dom Okus (16:33)
Yes.

Jaylin Lindsey (16:33)
I remember I saw one game. Yeah, yeah,

but I say he's he's cooks bro. Yeah.

Dom Okus (16:40)
books. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (16:42)
Yeah,

some players for some players. anyway, we'll bring it. We'll bring it back to jail in a minute. And obviously sort of touched on you as a kid and your breakthrough. But you're not a Kansas City boy. You're you know, Charlotte from North Carolina. And obviously, I know we're kind of glossing over the beginning of your career there. But what I want to really get into is obviously this recent part of your career where you've just been at Charlotte FC.

So obviously you were acquired in the trade to go to Charlotte in their first season as a football club. So just talk to me about what that meant as like a hometown kid who's been brought in for the first season ever of this football club and just what it meant to kind of walk out for the first time. was at the was at the the Panthers Stadium like your first game at home as well.

Jaylin Lindsey (17:39)
Yep, yep, yep.

Jamil Roberts (17:40)
Yeah,

so what was that experience like and that feeling obviously representing your city in their first ever season as a football club?

Jaylin Lindsey (17:50)
Nah, it was a blessing dude. I mean, obviously like when I got the call, like from my agent saying like, obviously they're interested in me back. was like, I mean, dude, I had like no questions where I was like, I'm going to go back home. Like it's going to be dope atmosphere with like the fans. Cause like, I mean, I totally listened to a bunch of interviews as well, but like, you know, obviously coming back for this ICC games in the summer, like the games would be packed like the whole stadium. So like I knew when the team got a soccer team, like it was going to be absolutely amazing. So.

Jamil Roberts (17:59)
Uh-uh.

Jaylin Lindsey (18:16)
Yeah, I kind of was just like yeah, I'm definitely going back, you know, especially after the last season I had At sporting that year like I had a bunch of injuries whatever so I was like, you know going back home would be just be like a blessing or whatever so Yeah, I got back home and then like, you know, obviously preseason but went really well then do like that first game, bro Probably the best atmosphere. I've one of the best atmosphere that I've ever played in like 74,000 packed.

You know, even like the national anthem, dude, like, so like that's kind of like our, that's kind of like their thing now is like, they'll bring somebody on to sing, like sing the national anthem. And then from like the first game, mic cut out. And so the whole stadium started singing it like the national anthem. So it was like, there's almost like you're at a concert, right? Like it was crazy. and so now they do that every game and stuff, like they'll have someone go and sing for a little bit and the whole stadium will sing it. So, bro, but like that first game was like absolutely like nuts, dude, like.

Jamil Roberts (19:01)
Wow.

Dom Okus (19:02)
Mad.

Jaylin Lindsey (19:13)
Just getting to the stadium, leaving the stadium, like all the fans outside, bro, like absolutely unreal, unreal.

Dom Okus (19:20)
Sick. Sick. I mean, you're nervous for that first game.

Jaylin Lindsey (19:23)
Honestly, dude, not really. Cause I was like, dude, like this is like, you get to that moment. It's like, this is like what you work so hard for, like, know, you know, environments and like stuff like this, like, as a kid, like you're sitting there, like, I want to play in front of a bunch of people. And like, I got to that moment. And like, I mean, probably like, obviously you got like the nerves by the first like two minutes, like you just try to get that first pass in to kind of like, I get the confidence going a little bit. Um, but then like after that, I mean, it's just like, it's, it's like, that's what you work for, man. Like you go out there and you like do your thing and ball. So.

Dom Okus (19:29)
Mmm.

Jamil Roberts (19:41)
Yay.

Dom Okus (19:42)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (19:50)
Yeah, it's crazy because like obviously at that point, yeah, you'd been in the MLS for a couple of years at that point as well So like it wasn't like, know, it wasn't like your pro debut or nothing But you talk about 74 000 people like that's a lot bigger than children's mercy Like that's a lot bigger stage to play on

Jaylin Lindsey (19:55)
Yeah, exactly.

Exactly.

Dude, like almost what? Like

little bit less than three times that, bro. Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (20:10)
Yeah,

incredible, incredible and like, yeah, I mean, I can't even imagine and then obviously putting yourself, like trying to be in your shoes even further, like you're probably looking around the stadium knowing like X, Y and Z or people are messaging you or people are commenting on your posts or whatever, like saying I'm coming to the game or I'm this or I'm that, like that much is a bit unreal.

Jaylin Lindsey (20:21)
Yeah.

Dude.

Bro, yeah, mean, just the amount of like, obviously school friends and like, you all the friends I have back here, like, you know, having all of them at the game, like even obviously like my clubs, basically like my old club team is basically Charlotte too. So like, you know, all those like little kids coming to the game, like the coaches, like, bro, you just had, I feel like I had everybody there behind me, bro. was like unreal, man, unreal.

Dom Okus (20:53)
Did you become a little bit of like a local celebrity? I maybe even still know because of that. Like in that there's a new soccer team, you're the hometown boy.

Jaylin Lindsey (20:58)
I

Yeah, I mean, I think that first year dude like that first year was like, I feel like I was like on cloud nine in terms of like, you know, I feel like I had like a pretty good status within the city. You know, obviously being like, you know, being the first year there's so much hype around the team and stuff like because kind of before obviously you have the Hornets here you have, you you have the Panthers. I mean, you have like the Charlotte Knights, but I mean, like, we all it was almost like we brought like

Dom Okus (21:14)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (21:25)
you

Jaylin Lindsey (21:30)
energy to the city bro like people were just so excited so like we came in as like kind of like a new kid on the block and everybody was just like you know hopping on the train um dude so i you know i honestly i feel like you know these last three years have been absolutely phenomenal in terms of just like you know being back home like you know giving like kids like an opportunity to sit there and say like you know i to play for the hometown team and you know stuff like that so it's super cool man

Dom Okus (21:36)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (21:55)
That's sick. I wanted to just bring it back actually So you mentioned before that obviously you had a few injuries in the year prior to going to Charlotte so was that So that kind of a like did that kind of influence your decision a little bit you think to sort of look elsewhere or was it like I'm staying at shot I'm staying at SKC or like it's Charlotte or I'm staying like you weren't considering anything else that like turned your head And that was that was it done deal in your head anyway

Jaylin Lindsey (22:23)
Yeah, so it was actually dude like that. That year was like it was such a strange year. Duke's like. I mean, I mean, I don't know if you kept touching me with it a little bit like that year. I was kind of like. And I started I started out this season like a starter then like obviously is usually came back from injury. Then like it was kind of like being him were going back and forth like he'd get injured out play.

Jamil Roberts (22:40)
Well, I think that was

the year I was at the club and I think, and I remember you just, I mean, I don't mean to interrupt you there, but I remember one day where you had been doing rehab for so long and I was at training and you jumped in and it was possession, you jumped out within like 10 minutes. Like you literally just couldn't move.

Jaylin Lindsey (22:43)
or you.

Oh dude. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. So you're, yeah, you're there that year. It's like that year was just like, so in the beginning it was like, you know, I was in and out and then eventually kind of hit the summertime. Had like my first, like, you know, right. Like my hamstring strain. was like, I was only out like maybe a week or so then like came back, you know, like obviously I had like two goals that year to like still being in and out then like had another hamstring. And that's, that was the third one I was telling you. And that was the third one I was telling you about was like,

Cause like after my second one, was like another two months. And then I came back from that one. That's the one you're talking about. Like it my first training session back. was playing neutral and then like, kid you not probably like, I mean, Jamil knows there's probably like 10 minutes in, like all of a I just feel my hamstring. just walk off through. Like I was like, dude, I do.

Jamil Roberts (23:46)
Literally like it was one

of them where like you like you don't you know Normally when you get injured in training or whatever like some of the lads might give you a bit and be like where you go in or like this that whatever like everyone just kind of stopped and looked because everyone knew like like because we could see like he was working his ass off like every day like out there watching training or like doing sprints or doing this with like Joey and that and like and then literally like he'd been in for no more than ten minutes and like he just

Jaylin Lindsey (23:56)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Dude, yeah.

Jamil Roberts (24:14)
Didn't even say anything to anyone, like just head straight back to the changing room.

Jaylin Lindsey (24:16)
Yeah.

Yeah. mean, cause like, mean, dude, took a toll on me for sure. Cause like, obviously that was like my first, like besides my need, like two years prior, but like, I mean, dude, it was like, I feel like there's like a never ending thing. was like, dude, like what is going on? And then like after that happened, I was like, yeah, my season is done. Like I can't like, there's no way. Like, and so then after that I was out for like another two months. and so like, but it was weird that like during that summertime, that same year, like, you know, I get, you know,

A couple of calls my agent like, there's a team in Belgium interested. he actually, honestly, he actually said that wolves were interested in, but they wanted to send me to their sister, her team, grasshopper in Switzerland first before, like, obviously with the work permit and stuff to go back in England, whatever. So, and so like, obviously I had those kinds of options like to go overseas as well. But like, you know, at the time, like I was sitting here thinking like, look, like, and obviously then Charlotte came in then I was like, yeah, I'm coming off like.

Jamil Roberts (24:57)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Jaylin Lindsey (25:11)
three hamstrings, I was like, do I want to go overseas? And then like, you know, coming off an injury and then like, you know, come back and, know, maybe not have that, you know, security or option to come back here. And so that eventually when Charlotte caught, was like, you know, it it might be a good stepping stone to like, you know, go to Charlotte, you know, get some games and get us good season, get some good seasons in and then maybe go back overseas again. So I mean, yeah, it was a weird process, but eventually I was like, look, I'll just go back to Charlotte, you know, go back home. it's

once in a lifetime opportunity at the time, come back home, be in front of my hometown. So it was cool, man.

Dom Okus (25:47)
Just a quick question on that and I'm sure, like you said, you've had an amazing time at Charlotte, but hindsight is always 20-20. Do you feel like maybe you should have taken the opportunity to go overseas at that time, knowing what you know today, or would you still have made the same decision?

Jaylin Lindsey (26:03)
I mean, so that's like, it's a tough one, dude. Cause like, obviously I'm, I'm one of those people that, know, whatever happens happens and like, you know, it's, it's meant to be, um, you know, knowing what I do now, you know, I think maybe I could have took that risk and just said, like, look, let's go ahead and try it out. You know, see how it goes. Um, cause obviously you never know what happens. Like I could have went over there, you know, maybe played one year for grasshopper or something. Then like, you know, who was really interested. Then next thing you know, I'm playing in the Power League or something like that. You never know.

Dom Okus (26:09)
That's right.

Jaylin Lindsey (26:32)
Um, you know, weird things just happen like that football, you know, with injuries and like people get released and stuff like that. So, um, I mean, yeah, like obviously that was an opportunity there and you know, that I want to take it for sure. Uh, at the time I was still probably what, like I was still 20, you know, 1920. So I was like, you know, I was still a little bit young, like don't to move like, you know, that early age. Cause I already kind of did that with Casey. Like I moved to Casey when I was 14 without my parents. So was like, I don't want to do that again and make that jump.

Dom Okus (26:39)
Yes sir.

Jamil Roberts (26:49)
Mm-mm.

Dom Okus (26:57)
in a minute.

Jaylin Lindsey (27:00)
to another country where I don't really know anything. So I mean, yeah, there was a little bit somewhat of regret, but like, mean, coming to Charlotte was just a blessing, man. you know, I don't mind it at all. Like I've had an amazing time here and obviously I'm just kind of focused on what's next.

Dom Okus (27:16)
100%. No, 100%. The reason I ask the question like that is because obviously, you're still reasonably early in your career, even though you've done so much. But I'm sure there's going to be someone watching this who's in a similar position to you, right? Maybe 18, 19 years old, have played first team pretty early and are getting interest from abroad. And so they're probably weighing up similar things that you have to weigh up, right? Should I stay? Should I go abroad? Should I take that risk? That's kind of why I asked that question.

Jaylin Lindsey (27:38)
For sure.

Jamil Roberts (27:40)
Yeah, and I think I think it's important for young lads to know as well just to kind of extend off of that is like when you're young like and I think we're all guilty of this of being like in your late teens early 20s that like you think like the next move that you make like if it doesn't work out like you're done you're done as well, and I think that's an important one to To sort of like an important message to get across is like at the end of the day like foot things in football change so quickly

Jaylin Lindsey (27:59)
Yeah.

Dude,

I'd live over it.

Jamil Roberts (28:08)
Like, and it's

exactly like you said then, I know it's all talking in hypotheticals, but you could have gone to grasshoppers, you could have then had a World E for five games and all of a sudden you're playing in the Prem for Wolves. Like, football changes that quickly and like it's the same thing, like, you know, for young lads, like, I've seen so many young players, and I'm sure the two of you are probably pinging off examples in your head as well, of like, couple injuries happen.

Jaylin Lindsey (28:18)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (28:36)
They play a few games and all of sudden their career just takes off. know, and that's just one example of like, things in football change so quickly. to think like one move is gonna make or break your career, like it's really not like that. Like just stay where your feet are at and like just play well and focus on the next game. I think that's a really important thing, especially for young lads to know. Like it really can change so quickly.

Jaylin Lindsey (28:39)
Dude, it's crazy,

Yeah, no, mean, I've seen it with so many players, dude, like, I mean, you would think like, you know, one thing like, like you would just sit there and think like all the, know, obviously, I'm not a person like, like, compare, but sometimes like, you know, you guys know, like, you know, you're sitting in dressing rooms, you guys are talking about players and stuff. And you're like, Oh, like, you know, maybe that player is like, Hey, the players are right. But the next thing you know, like, you know, injuries happen, they get, you know, a couple of chances to play next, you know, their careers popping off. And then you're like, dude, like what just happened, dude, I know I got to name so many players now that like,

Dom Okus (29:00)
Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (29:29)
I thought at the time I was like, like, you know, I'm not really sure. And then next, you know, just unbelievable. Like it's crazy, man. It changed so quickly.

Jamil Roberts (29:38)
Yeah, literally. Literally, mate.

Dom Okus (29:40)
An example,

but just a, I know we need to move on, but the example I think of the most is Carl Jenkinson. He's the same age as my brother. He was at Charlton. think he played eight first team games for Charlton in the league. That is maybe a little bit more in the cup and stuff, but eight league games and ends up nicking the move to Arsenal and ends up at Arsenal for eight years. You know, I was like, what? How? Yeah. He was at Charlton's youth team.

Jamil Roberts (29:44)
Yes, what?

Jaylin Lindsey (30:00)
Crazy.

Jamil Roberts (30:01)
The... What? The... Kyle Jenkins and the right back?

8 games.

Dom Okus (30:09)
Yeah, he breaks into the first team, like eight, does like a few loan spells, plays eight league games for Charlton and ends up nicking a move to Arsenal and is at Arsenal for eight years.

Jamil Roberts (30:20)
What?

Dom Okus (30:22)
Madness bro, madness. was at Arsenal 2011 to 2018 or 19 something like that. So yeah madness. And he didn't really play that much but he's had a primary career you know.

Jamil Roberts (30:28)
That is, that is mine.

Yeah, that is crazy.

Dom Okus (30:34)
Yeah, football's insane. Yeah,

bro.

Jamil Roberts (30:37)
so yeah no so anyway and just sort of wrapping all of that up obviously you know talked about and being in charler and you know you're talking about how much it meant to you and kind of I guess I guess it all kind of ties in with what we were just saying now about like things change so quickly in football

So obviously your time at Charlotte has come to an end, Charlotte FC. So, you know, what does the future hold for Jaylen Lindsay? it, know, do see yourself playing still in the US? You know, are you open to playing overseas? You know, like, I know there's only so many disclosed details that we can have on the show, but you know, if there's anything out there that you think, you know, you'd be open to, you know, what's next?

Dom Okus (31:14)
you

Jaylin Lindsey (31:21)
Yeah, I mean, so,

you know, obviously I've been, you know, kind of being patient with kind of the free agency thing. I guess my first time, um, you know, being in this like free agency environment. um, just kind of, you know, wanting to explore all options. Like I want to experience things like kind of overseas. Um, first, I believe just because I think with my age and kind of with my profile, um, you know, I'd love to try, you know, going overseas, whether it goes well or not. Um, you know, obviously if.

You know, if it goes well, like obviously I worked my way up there. you know, if not, then, you know, I'll try to find, you know, something in the U S that kind of fits, you know, my situation and, you know, obviously the offer that would want, and then, just kind of compare the two options and kind of go from there. So it's, it's my future is kind of up in the air right now. in terms of what I'm going to do next, but you know, I'm just kind of just being patient and just see like, you know, what the best offer comes in and.

what's best for me in my career.

feels like yesterday I was like 17, starting my first deal with KC. And now I'm like, I'll be 25 in like two months. And now it's it's blowing by, dude. So it's like, you just never know when it's going to end, dude. It's crazy, bro. So I just want to experience as much as I can.

Jamil Roberts (32:29)
mate, the numbers, god.

Jaylin Lindsey (32:36)
Yeah, I was really experienced much

Jamil Roberts (32:37)
Age is crazy man.

Jaylin Lindsey (32:38)
as I can, you know, in terms of like my football knowledge, you know, kind of have the stories, you know, whatever, you know, I grew up, I can kind of tell like all the stories that, you know, I've been in this country, this country, you know, play in the US for a while, you know, so it kind of passed it along with, you know, maybe if I, you know, kids one day or if I go into coaching or whatever, like, you know, I can teach these kids like, look, like there's so much out there that you can learn and.

you know, because I'll have the experiences, you know, kind of share that with them. yeah, I kind of want to experience just everything, know, whether if it goes, you good or bad, it just, you know, I want to experience as much as I can. So.

Jamil Roberts (33:17)
Yeah, that's sick mate. I think that's a really good open mindset to have especially at this stage of your career So whatever the future holds for you, I know it's gonna be I know it's gonna pay off And I know they'll be the right decision for you, which is important But what what I did want to touch on in this episode is obviously we've talked about you know That the past and the future just then but I want to talk about the present and I want to talk touch on a little bit

Jaylin Lindsey (33:21)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (33:43)
about because we haven't actually had this conversation yet all I'm seeing on your insta is these little AI videos of you doing the dances and you doing all this right so talk to yeah the old the old paketa one so Jalen Lindsay the Twitch streamer

Jaylin Lindsey (33:53)
It's a okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.

Dom Okus (33:57)
I love it. I love it. I love it.

Jaylin Lindsey (34:02)
dude.

Jamil Roberts (34:09)
What's going on there, mate? When did that come about? And just talk to us a little bit about it. Is that just a hobby? Are you doing that as like, you know, trying to build something from that? You know, what's the deal? What's going on?

Jaylin Lindsey (34:17)
Yeah. So honestly, I started

probably like late end of summer. you know, was kind of just sitting here thinking like, you know, obviously. Yeah. Cause I'll tell you right now, if I started doing Twitch streaming, probably like when I first signed with Casey, I, I honestly, I probably would have like a lot more of like a, you know, audience or like even just like a, you know, I guess more of like an audience or my brand would be more up there.

just because like amount of like video games, know, you know, the amount of downtime we have and like, I'll come home when you want to get on the game a little bit and just like, you know, kind of escape, like being around the soccer size type thing. Um, and so I was saying the thing I like do like, I, I played video games. was like, bro, like people would just love to watch, you know, myself, you know, just play video games, like whether it's, you know, with teammates or just online playing, like, so it was one of those things I want to grow closer to, you know, my audience, the people that follow me.

Um, they can come in, they can kind of chat with me about, know, whether it's, you know, soccer about my career. Um, it's more of me to just like get in touch with them, uh, on that kind of personal level a little bit, rather than, you know, going through the Instagram and just posting about myself and just saying like, Hey, like, you know, you know, this dump or like this, you know, this game or whatever. Um, and so I feel like it's just more of those, one of those things where I'm trying to grow my brand kind of through that as well. Cause

It's something I love to do. it's, I think it's something that's effortless. You know what mean? It's not like I'm sitting there, have to force myself to like, you know, play the game or whatever, but like, just like to play it. And, know, I feel like people would love to watch it. um, and that's why I come back to those AI things. I kind of use those to kind of like, maybe catch the eye of some people to like, be like, you know, what the fuck is this? Like, you know what I mean? Like, what, what's this video, bro? Hey, bro, the amount, the amount. That's what I'm saying. Like,

Dom Okus (36:05)
Hehehehehe

Jamil Roberts (36:06)
Mate mate, I mean you're my boy and it piques

my interest

Jaylin Lindsey (36:10)
The amount of people that like,

even like when I go back to the locker room, you know, with my team, like they'd be like, oh bro, like those AIs are so funny, bro. And like, that's like, that's kind of what I want. I kind of want that attention where it's like, oh, this is funny. Like, you know, people click on the link and you know, like that's kind of like obviously the marketing side of things, but you know, it's just a good thing to kind of like, you know, obviously express my personality as well. Cause I feel like a lot of people, not always say misjudge me a little bit, but like.

They feel like I'm just kind of like super serious and stuff. like, mean, Jamil, you know, I'm like, I'm goofy half the time, dude, like I'll, you know what I mean? like that's. That's what I'm saying. So it's like, so it's like, I want to show that personality, like my banter and stuff like that as well. Like even like I even thought about doing a podcast and stuff, but I figured the Twitch thing would be like a lot more like right down my alley and just like, you know, being effortless and just being free flowing and stuff like that. So.

Jamil Roberts (36:44)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get inside the locker room and this guy's not serious whatsoever.

Dom Okus (36:50)
Hehehehehe

Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick. So how often are you streaming at the moment?

Jaylin Lindsey (37:11)
So honestly,

as of right now, I'm really trying to do like kind of once a week. You know, I should be doing more to obviously like, you know, try to get more followers in and out there. Well, obviously my setup isn't like the greatest. I have like, I would say like probably like an amateur setup. Cause I want to make sure like, you know, before I go buy all the expensive stuff to make sure like, you know, what I'm doing now is like, I would like it. I want to continue it and be, you know, be, be disciplined and doing it every week. But

I think once I get the right equipment, hopefully I'll probably start to do maybe two to three times a week, maybe even four. Just again, just so can get closer to my fans and obviously, while I just play the game, just be chilling.

Dom Okus (37:59)
for sure, for sure, dope

Jamil Roberts (37:59)
Yeah, that's cool. Yeah,

I think a lot of that's synonymous with the back stick, because obviously you can see we've got, this is high tech. The background is high tech. The mics are high, the headphones are high tech. really, you know, this is, the standard of this recording studio is stellar. So, yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (38:06)
Yeah, that's what I say.

Dom Okus (38:09)
Yes.

Madness. Top level. Premier League.

Top level.

Jamil Roberts (38:26)
Hey, sometimes

all you need is the basics to work Sometimes all you need is the basics, but now mate I love it I love it and and we've we've touched on this before haven't we done about how footballers don't have to be robotic, right? they don't have to be just these one-dimensional beings that are just That are just football football football and they don't have a life outside of it So like we've touched on it before but I'll say again like I love it when especially when it's my boys But like I love it when any footballer just has a go at something else

Dom Okus (38:30)
That's it. That's it. That's it.

Crunchy Bisson.

Jaylin Lindsey (38:54)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (38:56)
You know like that's what I'm doing with the podcast and obviously I'm lucky to have Dom involved with it But you know that's what that was why I wanted to do the podcast because it was like you said it was a way that I could sort of connect with my people a little bit on on a sort of level and and You know, I loved I love that you turn around there and you said like yeah But it's all about your brand as well. Like there's that it's that twofold right? Like it's a hobby But yes, like at the end of the day there is an end goal. We're not just doing this for You know shits and giggles

Jaylin Lindsey (39:07)
Okay.

Jamil Roberts (39:25)
You know there is an end goal there is a purpose for everything you do so if you can do something that I mean Everyone always has it you can do something that you love or you enjoy doing and you can turn it into something Then like you won't work a day in your life So, you know like and and like like you said as well We're lucky as footballers that where we have free time. We have so much downtime to where

Jaylin Lindsey (39:36)
Exactly.

Dom Okus (39:38)
Yes.

Jamil Roberts (39:47)
I feel like lads don't use that time enough and then that's when they get bitten in the ass in their 30s or whenever they do end, you know, call it a day in their career. having it sick that you're at least, whether it goes to the moon or not, like you're at least trying something, mate, you're putting yourself out there because that's gonna set you up for everything else.

Jaylin Lindsey (40:00)
for sure. For sure. Because I do I feel like especially

even like pro players do like I feel like there's just so much opportunity in terms of like, you know, the more even the marketing side, there's so much opportunity, you know, to increase your brands, you know, like, you know, find, you know, local shops or something like that to kind of connect with or, like I said, even the Twitch or even doing a podcast or, know, like even I was even doing a couple weeks ago, I know if you hopped in Jamil, but I did like a

like IG live watching Prem games like dude, like there's stuff like that where it's like that. Yeah, I say, cause even you're just sitting there, like you're talking to fans. It's like, you know, talking about you're sitting there watching the Prem game and like, you know, they're asking questions of like, know, who do you think won the league and like, know, who do you think about this player, this player, like Ballon d'Or and like, bro, there's just so much opportunity to be able to connect with like, you know, your, your fan base and stuff like that. And I feel like a lot of guys, you know, and I respect it. Everyone has like their own.

Jamil Roberts (40:35)
Yeah, I was in there for a sec. Yeah

Jaylin Lindsey (40:59)
you know, let's say like environment or whatever, but a lot of guys, feel like, you know, go to practice, go home and kind of just chill, know, like watch TV or whatever. But like, I just feel like, again, there's so much opportunity to try to increase your brands, like outside of the game. Because like, like you said, like we're not like robots, like we have hobbies, we have interests outside of the game as well. you know, trying to express that to your fan base and say, look, like my life is just more than football.

You know, like for me, like I love to go out and play tennis. Like I love to go out and play, um, you know, other different types of sports, like hang out with my friends. Like there's, so much more to that than just, you know, football, football, football. Um, and that's why I want to try to increase even just like my social media pages rather than, you know, soccer, soccer, soccer posts, right? Like, how about I show times where I'm, you hanging out with my friends or

Dom Okus (41:39)
100%.

Jaylin Lindsey (41:50)
showing off my fits or just different stuff like that where they can kind of connect on another level rather than just football, you know what mean?

Jamil Roberts (42:00)
and I think that goes a long way as well. Like, you know, not to keep going around in circles, but it does. Like, and at the end of the day, like connecting with people is all anyone really wants in it, like in whatever capacity. So like if we can use that platform, which we do have a platform, people don't, some players don't realize, but footballers do have a platform. No matter what level of following they have, they have a platform to...

Jaylin Lindsey (42:10)
Exactly.

Exactly.

Jamil Roberts (42:27)
Spring Warden do something so I think it's sick mate. I think it's really cool. But anyway, think that's a good place to move on and Jay, think you're gonna enjoy this little segment of the show. But anyway, I think it's time where I pass over to Mr. Ocus where...

Dom Okus (42:30)
Thank you.

Jamil Roberts (42:53)
Mr. Oakes is gonna take you through extra time on the Backstik Podcast.

Jaylin Lindsey (42:57)
All right. All right.

Dom Okus (42:59)
But before I get into it, there's a few people I want to talk to the listeners and the people who are watching on YouTube. Because we've been here about, call it 45, 50 minutes. They're enjoying the episode because they're still here and they haven't subscribed. I don't understand. So if you're listening, you've been here 45, 50 minutes, just click that subscribe button for me, please. I know you're enjoying this, so please just click that subscribe.

Like follow on the Spotify's, the Apple's, all that good stuff, the social media's please, because I know you're enjoying this content. Now, I'm going to take you through extra time. And I'm really starting to get comfortable in this role that I'll post in extra time. How much is it? It's about five additional. It's about five. It's about five additional. like I said, like on the social medias and stuff, the people that's really working with the extra time, they've started to call me...

Jaylin Lindsey (43:33)
How much is it ref? How much is it ref? Like five more, five more, five more.

Jamil Roberts (43:39)
Hahaha

Hahaha!

Dom Okus (43:54)
Steve Harvey with a skin fade. Our British fans have started to call me like the Black Paddy McGuinness. You might not get that reference Jalen but it's okay. The Black Note Edmonds. But I'm really getting in my hosting bag so I'm going take you through four questions that we ask every single guest. The first is, who's the best player you've played with?

Jamil Roberts (43:58)
Did it?

Jaylin Lindsey (44:20)
No, it's...

Jamil Roberts (44:21)
intense.

Dom Okus (44:22)
There's gonna be a few upset people here, I can tell. I can tell by the reservation there's gonna be a few upset people. It's all right. Just tell your truth, it's cool.

Jaylin Lindsey (44:32)
No, it's one of those things I don't want to leave anybody out. I don't want to save one of them. I'm like, oh, shoot, later on. But best player I played with. Wow.

Dom Okus (44:38)
Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (44:49)
Yeah, honestly. In terms of played with and I'm going to go based off like. Impact. Like everything. I I might have to go probably Johnny Russell in terms of who I played with. I mean, I I think more like with with with I think with his impact like I mean it was like it was one of those things we gave him a ball and like he just let him do his thing like it was like it was it was automatic and he would just.

Jamil Roberts (45:09)
Great choice.

Jaylin Lindsey (45:18)
cut people up, score goals, get the job done. And what a guy as well. He's probably up there in terms of probably one of the better players I've probably played with probably.

Dom Okus (45:31)
come up a few times on this podcast, doesn't he, Jam? In a few different of these categories, I think there's a theme there. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Jamil Roberts (45:31)
Yeah, yeah, John... few capacities, yeah. Yeah, he's a

theme. Johnny's top. I don't need to go over it again myself. Johnny's top. And he's probably, he's definitely up there for me as well. I haven't been asked the question, but yeah, he's definitely up there for me off the top of my head.

Jaylin Lindsey (45:42)
Nah, he's good, bro.

Dom Okus (45:43)
Yeah, yeah, sick.

Yeah sick

sick sick sick. I'm sure we'll have to get him on one of these days he's come up far too many times before that we're manifesting it at this point. Right the next question yeah the next question is who's the best player you've played against?

Jamil Roberts (45:59)
He'd be one hell of a guest.

Jaylin Lindsey (46:05)
And this could be like anytime, or you just saw me just pro.

Dom Okus (46:10)
Amy.

Jaylin Lindsey (46:11)
Dude, okay, I know what Jamil's thinking, but...

Jamil Roberts (46:13)
Bro... Alright, okay, I'm gonna stay quiet.

Dom Okus (46:17)
Now to say your answer, worry about Jim or say your answer, don't let him influence you.

Jaylin Lindsey (46:21)
All right, let me go.

Oof.

Dom Okus (46:26)
And you can show us what you're out. So can tell us who you're thinking, you know, if you've got a few players in mind and then who you're ultimately going to go with.

Jaylin Lindsey (46:28)
Okay, yeah, okay, I better say I'm gonna I have a feel like I

feel inside my mind for sure now. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna say I'm gonna say Messi.

I must say, no, no, no, like, well, I'm well, I have three, I have three. I should, yeah, I honestly, I should have thought about that. But yeah, Messi at the time, obviously, we mentioned it before, but Sancho at the time. And my third, actually, I might have four, actually one, the other one's Nani when you play Orlando City.

Dom Okus (46:42)
You had to think about that. Alright, go on, on, go on.

Jamil Roberts (46:43)
Hahaha

you

Dom Okus (46:59)
Mm-hmm. Okay.

Jaylin Lindsey (47:07)
And then my last one's Vini Jr.

Dom Okus (47:08)
Okay, yeah. Hola.

Jamil Roberts (47:08)
yeah.

Player.

Dom Okus (47:13)
Woo! When did you play against him?

Jaylin Lindsey (47:13)
Yeah. So I played against him.

Jamil Roberts (47:14)
Vini Jr.

Jaylin Lindsey (47:16)
So we actually won. It's usually the Nike friendlies tournament that's in, it's like, it was at a time when the da showcase was down there in Florida. So we would be playing with the national team, you 17s and we played Portugal, Turkey and Brazil. And at the time, like before the game, like, I mean, obviously, you know, like, you know, these are the bigger countries, right? So like, obviously some of our teammates are like,

Dom Okus (47:35)
Mm.

Jaylin Lindsey (47:40)
you know, doing research on, know, not research, but just kind of like looking up guys through social media or whatever. And like, the time Vini had like, he had like the links to like, you know, Man U and Madrid or whatever. like, so like we knew he was good. We knew he was a good player. Like we were sitting here like, all right, like who is this guy? Like we have like, and then we started like, and he started looking up highlights and we're like, all right, like might be kind of good. but, but dude, I mean, like we, ended up winning the game, like three against Brazil. We ended up winning the tournament cause we beat.

Dom Okus (47:47)
Mm-hmm.

Well.

Ehehehehe

Jamil Roberts (48:03)
You

Jaylin Lindsey (48:08)
Portugal, Portugal, seven, no, maybe Turkey, five, and then we beat Brazil, three, yeah, we, killed that tournament, bro. Like we were on fire. And, so then obviously after the game, then obviously then, you know, I'm doing, I'm like, all right, who is this guy? Like whatever he's like, bro, he always got me nasty. That's why I wrote, that's why I put them up there. He always got me nasty one time, And like he had it on the end line, I think, and I came to defend him. He'd like, and this is the first time, like, I was kind like, all right, bro, like,

Dom Okus (48:11)
Wow.

Wow. Wow.

Ha

Jamil Roberts (48:31)
You

Jaylin Lindsey (48:38)
What are you gonna do? Bro, hits a snake out in. I was like, Bro, luckily, bro, luckily it went out of bounds and I was like, all right, cool, cool, cool, did my job, did my job.

Jamil Roberts (48:46)
I'm kidding!

No, no, no. You were looking the other way, mate.

Jaylin Lindsey (48:53)
Hey, you know, right now I didn't like go the other way. Like I definitely

like went like I definitely launched, you know what mean? So that so that went out about this. I did my job. Good. When I bounce, no problem. No clip, no clip, no clip.

Dom Okus (49:03)
E?

Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (49:10)
Nah, but yeah, nah, nah. Oh man,

Dom Okus (49:10)
Hey, I'm dead. I'm so dead.

Jamil Roberts (49:10)
my God. Yeah, you didn't end up on the house of highlights.

Jaylin Lindsey (49:16)
that'll

be bad, bro. But yeah, I'll probably say, I'll probably say those four were like, you know, I got in the field and like after the game, I was like, yeah, like, like that was like, wow. And like, not, not a lot of players moved me like that. We're like, after the game, I'm like, wow, like what a player, but like those guys, like every time I left the pitch, I was just like, dude, like just got in. I was like, fair enough.

Jamil Roberts (49:19)
Ho ho ho ho!

Dom Okus (49:19)
Hahaha!

ABS players.

Jamil Roberts (49:29)
both.

Jaylin Lindsey (49:41)
But.

Dom Okus (49:42)
Yeah, yeah,

Jamil Roberts (49:42)
Yeah,

Dom Okus (49:43)
yeah, yeah, yeah,

Jamil Roberts (49:44)
sick. That's sick.

Dom Okus (49:44)
yeah. Sounds like Jamil versus Michael Edwards. But yeah, we'll keep going. Right, we'll keep going. A little bit more lighthearted. If you could pick three teammates past or present to go on a night out with, who would they be and why?

Jaylin Lindsey (49:46)
Yeah.

Anyway,

Jamil Roberts (50:05)
hahahaha

Dom Okus (50:06)
They see it. They see it.

Jaylin Lindsey (50:06)
man, wow, wow, three

teammates.

Dom Okus (50:12)
Again, probably going to upset some people here, but it's all right. It's all good.

Jaylin Lindsey (50:15)
Yeah, I will. I'm

gonna say, gosh, dude, that's tough, man.

Jamil Roberts (50:26)
It's a tough question, three people is tough.

Jaylin Lindsey (50:27)
Three people's stuff.

Dom Okus (50:28)
Tough question. Tough

question.

Jaylin Lindsey (50:31)
Again, I'll say one, because what a time, Johnny, for sure. He actually took me out on my 21st and we had a time.

Dom Okus (50:38)
Yeah, it's a new episode.

Stick, stick, again, he's come up in this category a few times.

Jamil Roberts (50:43)
nice

Jaylin Lindsey (50:44)
Yeah, so if I say Johnny,

one of my teammates here now at Charlotte by Nick Scardina. And then. To I'm not thinking always play that play with her. Holy shit.

Dom Okus (51:00)
Mm-hmm.

Jamil Roberts (51:01)
Mm-hmm.

Jaylin Lindsey (51:04)
a night out. I'm trying to think these guys will get the night going bro all night too.

Dom Okus (51:10)
Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (51:12)
You've picked two strong characters so far as well. You got that as someone's... Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (51:12)
I picked really two, like that's a high standard right there, those two.

I'll probably say Bus. I like Bus I think he brings that chill vibe to the party, A bit of balance.

Jamil Roberts (51:31)
Bus

Yeah, bit of

balance. Yeah, I like that. Nah. Nah, nah. Nah. He's not the DD. Boost is not the DD.

Dom Okus (51:37)
Okay. Make sure everyone gets home all right.

Jaylin Lindsey (51:38)
That's all I had to say. No, well, not that, not that balance. Not that balance, but still a time. Still a good time. No, he hit the DD. He hit the DD.

Dom Okus (51:49)
Hahaha!

Jaylin Lindsey (51:51)
Cause

the other two I know they can go like all night and like boost will get to a point. Me and him will apply and get that point like, with my crash bro, like, you know what I mean? So.

Dom Okus (51:52)
Mwahahahah

Jamil Roberts (51:57)
yay.

Dom Okus (52:01)
Right. Right, right, right.

Jamil Roberts (52:01)
Yeah, let the other two

Jaylin Lindsey (52:02)
So.

Jamil Roberts (52:03)
go now Bruce is gonna lie out busy and Johnny's gonna lie out as well I've been out with the other lad, but I can I can I can attest the other two are good picks

Jaylin Lindsey (52:05)
Yeah.

Good time. Yeah.

Dom Okus (52:12)
Sick, sick. And last but not least, what is your biggest achievement on the pitch thus far?

Jamil Roberts (52:23)
How intense he is, do know what mean? I love it. Do know what mean? It's the proper, it's the Dwayne, it's the Dwayne Johnson smolder as he's thinking. know what I Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (52:24)
I mean, I mean, it's.

Dom Okus (52:24)
Yeah, I love he's really thinking about these, you know. It means so much to him, doesn't it? Looking off into the sunset, he's like

Jaylin Lindsey (52:30)
It's... Nah, nah, dude. It's extra

Dom Okus (52:36)
really thinking

Jaylin Lindsey (52:36)
time. Extra time you gotta think about it, bro. know, like, there's a couple minutes left. You gotta stay focused, bro. Exactly. Either when I doubt, kick it out, or you make a mistake, bro. You know what I mean?

Dom Okus (52:36)
about it. Good decisions. Only good decisions the next time. Only good decisions. Yeah.

Jamil Roberts (52:40)
Ha!

you

Jaylin Lindsey (52:52)
Uh, I mean, I'm not gonna lie. think for me, I think just going to that world cup, bro, the U 17, I'll probably, I mean, I know it was like a couple of years ago, but like, I mean, that moment was just surreal for me, bro. Like, knowing that I won't get that moment back, like unbelievable, dude. Like I'll probably say that one. And then obviously probably in my MLS debut when I was with Casey, probably one of those two, like, like just unbelievable time, like just getting there. Um,

Dom Okus (52:52)
Ha ha ha ha!

Mm-hmm.

Stick.

Sick. Sick.

Jaylin Lindsey (53:19)
You know, obviously the debut, was like my first, my rookie season. So like, got a couple of games under my belt and like, it was just absolutely like, it was a good year for me that year. And then yeah, the U-17 World Cup, you're just like, it's like once in lifetime, you get to go to World Cup, man. Like you just like, you never get that moment back. And you know, just being there and being like, like obviously knowing you're in a World Cup, fighting for your country, like it's, there's like no other better feeling, man. So I'll probably say those two.

Dom Okus (53:38)
Peace out.

Yeah, that makes sense. A lot of people have said their debut that is, you know, everything that you worked for as a kid, right? Like you start playing football at what, four, five, six, seven, whatever the number is, with hopes of maybe becoming a professional. yeah, amazing achievement, amazing achievement. So that concludes Exit of Time. And I'm going to hand you back to my way.

Jaylin Lindsey (53:49)
Yeah.

Exactly.

The whistle! The whistle! The whistle!

Jamil Roberts (54:06)
Hahaha!

You

You

Dom Okus (54:14)
I love

it, love it. Jam, I'm gonna fast it back to you to close this out.

Jamil Roberts (54:18)
ledge, I enjoyed that. That was a very good extra time. I know that one there, the smolder's a clip, 100%.

Dom Okus (54:23)
Yeah, class.

Jaylin Lindsey (54:26)
It's gotta be a gift,

Dom Okus (54:26)
Yeah.

Jaylin Lindsey (54:27)
bro, you know what mean?

Jamil Roberts (54:34)
man, that's very good. You know one thing that you said there at the end was moments you never get back and I think that's a That's a very very good phrase To kind of sum up those those things in your career, right? Like, you know, you can people talk about winning trophies and talk about this but I love that you talked about, know You referenced those moments you can't get back so you debut and obviously then playing in the World Cup like a u-17 level like, you know

Who knows what could happen? could end up going on and playing for the first team in the World Cup for the US, right? But like, being a kid and I guess what that meant to you at the time, like those are moments that you can't get back. So I think it's, that you reference them, I think it's amazing, mate. So and their achievements that, that every player, like at whatever stage of their career is at, like they'd love to have those moments. So, now big up, was, that's sick, But, it's about that time where I think,

I think we wrap things up and as always, Dom, it's becoming a theme. We're getting good people on this podcast and I've enjoyed that one and I'm sure you have as well,

Dom Okus (55:38)
A

lot. 100%, man, 100%. The energy, the laughter, the jokes, the banter. This one's been sick.

Jamil Roberts (55:41)
Mm.

Yeah, for sure. just first and foremost from myself and from Dom, Jay, thanks ever so much for coming on, mate. I know me and you catch up way too often. We're obviously chatting all the time in the group chats and that, but thanks ever so much for doing this, mate. It's been, it's been class. So I hope you've enjoyed yourself as well.

Jaylin Lindsey (56:01)
I appreciate you having me bro. This

is fun dude. Like this is stuff I like to do so but I mean just one thing before we go can we like talk about West Ham a little bit or

Jamil Roberts (56:09)
You

Jaylin Lindsey (56:09)
Yeah.

Dom Okus (56:10)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, we got to wrap up,

you know, we actually got to wrap up like, because obviously the thing that we use, that's running out of time, because obviously that's why we had the extra time. You know what saying? That's why we do extra time then we finish. No, so obviously you see the way the podcast is structured, like we do extra time and then the game finishes. You know what I'm saying? So like we can't go back. There's no more time left.

Jamil Roberts (56:19)
No, no, that's not that's not true. We've got the premium plan. We've got unlimited time

Jaylin Lindsey (56:23)
Hahaha!

Jamil Roberts (56:33)
Hang on, I don't know.

Jaylin Lindsey (56:35)
I I didn't hear the whistle blow, so I'm

still going like... nah, nah.

Jamil Roberts (56:37)
Hang on, can the camera see that? Can the camera see that? Can the camera see that?

Dom Okus (56:43)
bro. You guys are starting... Look, we lost to the league champions, the people who have won four Premier Leagues in a row. Is that so bad? We lost to Man City, who have won four titles in a row. Is that something to ban a little old West Ham

Jamil Roberts (56:47)
you

Hey Jay, Jay

I wouldn't know would you?

Jaylin Lindsey (57:02)
Honestly, I don't know, man.

Dom Okus (57:03)
man.

Jaylin Lindsey (57:08)
But anyway, thanks for having me on.

Jamil Roberts (57:10)
He's left his mark he's left his

mark

Dom Okus (57:15)
But even on me since the podcast even started, straight out of the gate, even on my stuff, even waiting to within closing remarks to come back. Yeah, this guy. Yeah, you lot. Just close the show, man. Just close the show, brother. Just close the show.

Jamil Roberts (57:19)
He's so vexed! He's so vexed!

I've never seen him this triggered on the show ever

Jaylin Lindsey (57:30)
God.

Hey, just put the bubbles in the

background. You'll be all right.

Dom Okus (57:39)
Hahahaha!

Jamil Roberts (57:41)
Ay.

Jaylin Lindsey (57:48)
I'm dead, bro.

Dom Okus (57:51)
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Fair play, boys, fair play. Fair play. Fair play.

Jamil Roberts (57:55)
There go. think I do know that sums up

right there. I don't think we need to go into anymore This was fun. This was fun first and foremost, but God, know it's one of them.
